What is the difference between an electric valve and a motorized valve?
In many industrial applications the terms overlap. Both generally describe a valve operated by an electric motor actuator. The important selection points are valve structure, required torque, voltage, control method and service conditions.
Which valve types can be supplied with electric actuators?
Common configurations include ball valves, butterfly valves, gate valves, globe valves and knife gate valves. Quarter-turn actuators are typically used for ball and butterfly valves, while multi-turn or suitable linear/multi-turn solutions are used for gate and globe valve applications.
Can a motorized valve be used for modulating flow control?
Yes, when the valve and actuator are selected for regulating duty. Common inputs include 0–10V, 2–10V and 4–20mA, with position feedback available on suitable configurations.
What information is needed to size the electric actuator?
Provide valve type and size, medium, working or differential pressure, temperature, operating speed, voltage and any fail-safe requirement. Actuator torque should be matched to actual valve duty rather than pipe size alone.
What voltages and control modes are available?
Typical project options include 24V DC, 24V AC, 110V AC, 220V AC and 380V AC, with on/off, 3-point floating, modulating and intelligent control depending on the actuator model.
Can you configure valves for outdoor or hazardous-area service?
Protection levels such as IP65, IP67 and IP68 are available by model. Selected explosion-proof actuator configurations can be supplied up to Ex d IIC T4/T6 Gb; final marking and suitability should be confirmed against the selected actuator certificate and project area classification.
