Globe valve structure

See how the actuator, stem and valve body work together

A globe valve is built around linear stem movement. The actuator or handwheel moves the stem, the stem drives the disc toward or away from the seat, and the changing opening controls the flow through the valve body. This is the basic reason a globe-valve design can be used for shutoff as well as throttling.

For an electric globe valve, the valve mechanism and actuator should be reviewed as one assembly. Stem travel, thrust, seat load, differential pressure and required control mode all affect actuator selection.

01
Handwheel & upper operating assemblyThe top operating assembly applies thrust to open, close or position the globe valve during manual or actuated service.
02
Bonnet, stem & packingThe bonnet closes the pressure boundary, the stem transfers motion to the disc, and the packing helps control leakage around the stem.
03
Disc & seatThis is the throttling and shutoff interface where the disc moves toward or away from the seat to regulate or stop flow.
04
Valve body & flanged endsThe valve body contains line pressure and forms the main flow passage, while the flanged ends connect the valve to the piping system.

Globe valve design and function

Built for controlled flow, not only open and close

A globe valve is a linear-motion valve in which the stem moves the closure element toward or away from a seat. The internal flow path creates more pressure loss than many straight-through isolation valves, but it also makes globe-valve designs useful where throttling, repeatable flow adjustment and controlled restriction are important.

For industrial globe valve projects, the mechanism and the material system need to be evaluated together. Body material, trim, seat, stem, packing, pressure rating, flow direction, differential pressure and actuator thrust all affect the final selection.

01Industrial Globe ValveUsed for shutoff, throttling and controlled restriction in process and utility piping.
02Vanne à globe électriqueCombines the globe-valve body with electric actuation for remote or automated operation.
03Vanne à globe motoriséeA common sourcing term for electrically driven globe valves using multi-turn or linear stem movement.
04Globe Control ValveRequires closer review of trim, pressure drop, control accuracy and actuator positioning when continuous regulation is required.

Globe valve manufacturer capabilities

Related configurations for industrial projects

Engineers and procurement teams use different sourcing terms depending on body material, operating method, piping connection and service. The configuration should still be selected from the real medium, pressure, temperature and valve duty.

Electric globe valve manufacturer

Electric Actuated Globe Valves

Electric actuation allows a globe valve to be operated remotely without a compressed-air supply. The actuator can be selected for switching, position feedback or selected regulating functions according to the model and control philosophy.

Flanged globe valve

Industrial Flanged Connections

Flanged globe valves are used where standardized bolted piping connections are required. The required nominal size, pressure class, flange standard and face-to-face dimension should be included in the project specification.

Stainless steel globe valve

Stainless Steel Construction

Stainless-steel globe valves can be considered for services requiring corrosion resistance or a stainless material specification. The exact grade must still be checked against the working fluid, temperature and pressure.

Cast iron globe valve

Cast Iron Construction

Cast-iron globe valves can be used for selected water, utility and general industrial services. Pressure, temperature, corrosion and project-standard limits should be checked before selecting the body material.

Steam globe valve

Steam & Thermal Service

Globe valves are commonly evaluated for steam and thermal systems where operators need controlled flow or shutoff. Body, trim, seat, packing and actuator ambient conditions must match the temperature and pressure of the actual duty.

High pressure globe valve

High Differential Pressure

High pressure, high temperature, severe throttling, flashing or cavitation can require specialized trim and closer engineering review. Complete process data should be provided before a standard catalog valve is selected.

Globe valve vs other valve types

When should you choose a globe valve?

Globe, ball, gate, butterfly and check valves solve different pipeline problems. The best choice depends on whether the priority is throttling, low pressure loss, fast isolation, compact installation or automatic prevention of reverse flow.

Choose a globe valve when control matters.

If the application requires repeated throttling, controlled restriction, steam or process-flow adjustment, a globe-valve design is often more appropriate than a valve optimized only for low-loss isolation. If the requirement is simply fast isolation or minimum pressure drop, a ball, gate or butterfly valve may be a better fit.

Globe valve selection guide

Start with the process data

A reliable globe-valve quotation needs more than DN and pressure class. The valve body and actuator should be selected around the actual medium, differential pressure, temperature, control function and site conditions.

Industrial globe valve applications

Globe valves in real process environments

Globe valves are commonly evaluated where process flow needs to be adjusted, controlled or remotely operated. The actual valve construction still depends on medium, pressure, temperature, differential pressure and control duty.

Oil and gas industrial process environment for actuated globe valves Oil & Gas / Petrochemical

Process control, utilities and automated operation

Refining, petrochemical and oil-and-gas facilities may use electric actuated globe valves where remote operation, controlled flow and integration with plant automation are required. Hazardous-area actuator requirements can also be part of the project specification.

Power generation plant application for steam and globe valves Power / Steam

Steam, condensate and thermal flow regulation

Power generation and industrial steam systems often require valves that can handle temperature, pressure and repeated flow adjustment. Globe-valve bodies, trim, packing and actuators must be selected for the real steam or thermal duty.

Chemical process valve application for controlled industrial flow Chemical / Process Industry

Dosing, utility control and process-flow adjustment

Chemical plants can use globe valves for process feeds, utility flow and automated adjustment. Material compatibility, packing, seat design and actuator configuration should be reviewed against the actual fluid and operating conditions.

Manufacturing is more than a product photo

For project buyers, globe-valve sourcing also depends on how the valve is assembled, machined, tested and integrated with the actuator. Fleyenda’s manufacturing workflow covers valve production and actuated-valve assembly, with technical review and testing used to confirm the selected package before shipment.

Electric globe valve projects should include both mechanical and electrical requirements. The valve body and trim need to suit the medium and pressure, while the actuator needs the correct thrust, travel, voltage, controls and environmental protection for the installation.

Globe valve manufacturer FAQ

Common sourcing questions

What is a globe valve used for?

A globe valve is commonly used for shutoff and throttling. Its linear-motion closure element moves toward or away from the seat, allowing the flow area through the valve to change progressively.

What is an electric globe valve?

An electric globe valve combines a globe-valve body with an electric actuator. The actuator provides powered stem movement for remote opening, closing or selected positioning functions.

Is a motorized globe valve the same as an electric actuated globe valve?

The terms are often used for the same general product category. Motorized globe valve emphasizes the electric motor drive, while electric actuated globe valve emphasizes the complete valve-and-actuator assembly.

Can globe valves be used for throttling?

Yes. Throttling is one of the main reasons engineers select a globe-valve design. Continuous control may require closer review of trim, pressure drop, flow coefficient, cavitation, flashing and actuator positioning.

What materials are available for industrial globe valves?

Material availability depends on the exact valve model and service. The current Fleyenda electric globe valve range includes cast-iron and stainless-steel configurations. Final material selection should match the medium, temperature, pressure and project specification.

Can an electric globe valve use 4–20 mA or 0–10 V signals?

Selected Fleyenda electric actuator configurations support regulating and feedback signals. The required input, output, voltage and communication mode should be confirmed when requesting a quotation.

What information should I send to a globe valve manufacturer?

Provide medium, flow requirement where available, pressure, differential pressure, temperature, valve size, flange standard, material preference, operating duty, actuator voltage, control signal, quantity and destination.

How do I choose between a globe valve and a ball or gate valve?

If low pressure drop and simple isolation are the main priorities, a ball or gate valve may be more appropriate. If controlled restriction and throttling are important, a globe-valve design is often evaluated.
